About
Cyprus (CY) Lau is a Graduate Architect from the University of Adelaide, currently practicing in Hong Kong. He specializes in Architecture Design and Graphic Design, with a keen interest in the dynamic relationship between Place and People. His goal is to design and oversee the creation of spaces that tell and live these stories.
After completing working for two years in a local Architecture firm, completing two shopping center projects in his first job, CY embarked on a journey around the world.
He later transitioned to a career in Marketing, where he introduced innovative, niche, and sustainable technologies to industrial and commercial markets. Driven by strong curiosity and a fondness for constraints and challenges, he embraced this role to create value for customers.
He is a passionate photographer who has captured the essence of architecture, landscapes, and nature during his travels. However, a change of heart and the advent of smartphone technology led him to focus more on raw experiences and emotions. This shift was inspired by an encounter where he was asked to share his experiences from two trips: one where he took many photographs and one where he forgot his camera. Recalling the trip without his camera, he was deeply moved by the vivid emotions and personal memories he could recount, making it a profoundly important experience for him. In contrast, the trip with his camera left him with only fragmented memories tied to his photos. While he acknowledges the benefits of both approaches, he now treasures raw emotion above all, placing photography on a lower priority in his adventures.
Recently, CY has rekindled his childhood passion for astrophotography. Although he had avoided it for years due to the high cost of equipment, advancements in optics manufacturing and digital telescopes have reignited his enthusiasm, allowing him to pursue this hobby once again.
He also holds strong interest in languages, he can speak fluent English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Japanese. He also took on beginner German A2 back in 2017.
